Benzodiazepines are medications that are frequently prescribed for the symptomatic treatment of anxiety and sleep disorders. They produce their effects via specific receptors involving a neurochemical called gamma aminobutyric acid (GABA). Risk of physical dependence increases if Benzodiazepines are taken regularly (e.g., daily) for more than a few months, especially at higher than normal doses. Stopping abruptly can bring on such symptoms as trouble sleeping, gastrointestinal upset, feeling unwell, loss of appetite, sweating, trembling, weakness, anxiety, and changes in perception. The detection period for the Benzodiazepines in the urine is 3-7 days.

BTNX Rapid Response® Benzodiazepine Test Strips are rapid dipstick tests used to screen liquid or powder samples for benzodiazepine. They are designed as qualitative screening tests and provide results as soon as 1 minute.
These test strips are designed to detect benzodiazepine in liquid or powder samples at cut-off levels above 300 ng/mL. They do not measure the amount of benzodiazepine present
Benzodiazepines are depressant drugs that can cause sedation, relieve anxiety or muscle spasms, and reduce seizures. Common examples include Xanax®, Valium®, Ativan®, Klonopin®, and Halcion®.
The BTNX Benzodiazepine Test Strip is intended for use with liquid or powder samples. Users should always follow the product insert and quick reference card for proper sample preparation and testing.
The test can provide results as soon as 1 minute. A negative result can be interpreted once both the test line and control line appear. A positive result can be interpreted once the control line appears and the background clears to white, typically by 60 seconds. Results should not be read after 10 minutes.
A positive result indicates the presence of benzodiazepine in the sample. It does not show how much benzodiazepine is present and does not mean the substance is safe to use.
A negative result means benzodiazepine was not detected at or above the test’s minimum detection level. It does not rule out the presence of benzodiazepine, especially if it is present below the test’s detection threshold
No. The test is not intended to determine the safety, purity, or full composition of the substance being tested. A positive or negative result should not be interpreted as proof that a substance is safe.
Benzodiazepines can appear in the unregulated drug supply, sometimes alongside opioids. NIDA notes that researchers have found benzodiazepines in the illicit opioid supply in some areas, meaning people may be exposed knowingly or unknowingly.
Taking opioids with central nervous system depressants such as benzodiazepines, alcohol, or xylazine increases the risk of life-threatening overdose.
* A negative result can be interpreted as soon as both the test (T) and control (C) lines appear. A positive result can be interpreted once the control line has appeared and the background has cleared to white, typically by 60 seconds. Do not read results after 10 minutes.
- The test device is NOT intended to determine the purity, composition, or if the substance being examined is safe to use.
- A positive or negative test result is NOT an indication that the substance being examined is safe to use. Many factors come into play when examining the samples, including but not limited to mixture of multiple substances, solubility, and pH of the sample.
- BTNX Inc. does not encourage the use, supply, or production of illegal drugs or controlled substances in any way. The device is intended for harm reduction purposes. Follow the advice of your local harm reduction or public health agency.
- There is a possibility that technical or procedural errors as well as other substances and factors may interfere with the Rapid Response™ Benzodiazepine Test Strip (Liquid/Powder) and cause false results.
- A positive result indicates the presence of benzodiazepine only and does not indicate quantity.
- A negative result does not at any time rule out the presence of benzodiazepine, as they may be present below the minimum detection level of the test.
